1. What kind of stained glass designs do you do ?

I'm specializing in my two favorite breeds, Mastiffs and Danes, but I do all types of designs.  See the Other Designs page for samples of land and seascapes, florals, animals, patriotic designs, plus other random dog breeds.  I can create a design for just about anything you have in mind.

3. Can I place a custom order?

Absolutely.  See the Contact Me page and email me with info on what you have in mind, and we'll take it from there.  Please note that a custom design of your pet can only be accomplished if I have a very detailed photograph for the initial pattern.

4. What kind of payments do you take?

Currently I am taking personal checks, money orders, certified checks, and I now accept PayPal. Please note that personal checks must clear through the bank  before your order will be shipped to you. Please see the Pricing/Shipping page for more details.

5. Will my stained glass piece be well protected for shipping to me?

Yes, absolutely.... a good question as the pieces are all very fragile. The order will be securely packaged and will be insured for shipping. Please see the Pricing/Shipping page for more info on packing and shipping.

6. Can I ask for a change in the existing designs such as a different
color background or for an apricot dog instead of a fawn?

Yes. AKC approved colors for ANY breed will be available.  Keeping breed standards in mind, I'd prefer not to do designs of any inappropriate colors such as a "fawniquin" Dane.  Please see the 3rd paragraph of the Home page, and again on the Mastiff Design page.

7. How long does it take to create a custom design?

Depending on how creative I'm feeling, the design part can take anywhere from a few hours to a few days to perfect the look I'm trying to achieve.  That's the "fun part".  Then comes the cutting, soldering, etc., and depending on the size of the finished design or the intricacy of the project, it can take anywhere from a few days to a few weeks to complete a project.

8. How long will it take for me to receive my order?

Please allow 4-6 weeks for delivery from the date of the initial deposit.  Orders are securely packaged and shipped immediately after the final payment has been received.  (personal checks must clear the bank prior to shipping). Please see the
Pricing/Shipping page for more details.

9.  How do you make the stained glass pieces?

I will work together with the buyer on color schemes, background designs, textures, borders, etc.  When the buyer approves the final design and sends a deposit, I order the glass in the colors and textures we've chosen.  The stained glass is already "made".....people mistakenly assume that the stained glass artist "colors" the glass, but the sheets of glass are shipped to me in the colors and textures I order for the individual designs.

I hand cut each and every piece of glass for the project, and then grind and sand each one until the edges are smooth.  When that process is complete, I assemble the project on a work surface.....it's much like a putting a very intricate puzzle together.  It's crucial that all pieces of glass fit together precisely or the entire design will be lopsided.  When I'm satisfied with the assembly, I begin burnishing thin strips of copper foil to the edges of each piece of glass.  Flux is applied onto the foiled areas that are to be soldered, and then I begin the soldering process.  The solder will be bright silver, but after thoroughly cleaning the project, I lightly sand it and apply a "patina" which oxidizes the solder and turns it's color to black, antique copper, or pewter, and gives it a worn, antique look.

10. Do you offer a Layaway option?

Yes. Plan ahead for the holidays or any special occasion and give a unique stained glass gift to friends or family with an easy 6 month layaway plan.  A minimum deposit of $100 is required, and I'll be happy to work with you on a schedule of regular monthly payments. (non-refundable)   Final payments for Christmas gifts will be due on November 25th to guarantee delivery in time for the holidays.  My 6 month layaway plan is available all year long.

11.  How did you learn the art of stained glass?

This is mentioned on the About the Artist page, I took a class for beginners, then intermediate and advanced classes, and shortly afterwards began teaching my own classes.

13. What is the difference between stained glass and etched glass?

Stained glass is discussed above in #9.  Etched glass is the art of sandblasting or chemically engraving a design on glass or mirror.  I also offer the option of having both processes incorporated into one design, i.e., a stained glass Poodle design with the dog's name engraved on a specially treated, colored glass called "flash glass".  (Flash glass is very pricey, but when only a small piece is used, it's still affordable)

14. Do you have examples of the different types of glass and colors available?

This is discussed in the second paragraph of the Home page There are literally 1000's available from the different manufacturers, and I have them all with my software.  If a buyer wants to choose colors or textures, there will be numerous options.  I will email my initial design idea, and the buyer may feel free to let me know if they'd prefer the same design but with changes.  Keeping their ideas in mind, I can resend the same design to them very quickly with new and different color and/or texture suggestions.  I'll repeat that process until we come up with a design that is exactly what the buyer has in mind.
